2007 Rock The Schools band Oh Mercy have taken out the Red Bull Award In Recognition of Outstanding Potential, with the prize being $15,000 towards building their careers.
The Red Bull Award is annually presented to an Australian Music Prize Shortlist artist that is considered to have a promising future in music, both here and overseas.
Alexander Gow from Oh Mercy said: “Winning the Red Bull Award will help us fund our second album, which we are currently writing. That’s particularly useful for Oh Mercy as it makes it a little easier for us to remain an independent band… We are honoured to have been shortlisted amongst so many wonderful artists.”
The Melbourne band also took out the Qantas Spirit of Youth Award in November last year.
